I am a spinner and have been for a very long time. For a couple of years I was also teaching spinning, knitting and crochet until I got really sick and had to completely stop my activities to focus on my health. It took a year of me reading everything I could about the different types of Angora and finally decided on English (and then once I did I ended up with all types of Angoras).
I looked around for one forever so that I could have an Angora for the wool and spinning but it never occurred to me to show them. When we went to the show where we purchased Mackenzie's first bunny I finally got my first Angora. I was totally getting her just for the wool but when I was paying for her the seller suggested that I show her since I'd be at the shows with my daughter anyway. I showed her a couple of weeks later and she got two legs! That was the beginning of our angora herd.
This guy is gorgeous. He's got it all: Density, texture, color, personality ++. But if I were being really honest I almost think I bought him for the name. If he weren't a good bunny I wouldn't have gotten him, but the name really helped. He is my dad's bunny that I got because my dad always goes to shows with us and I figured if I got him a bunny to show that would give him something to do. My dad's name is Fred and a lot of people call him Freddie. For years he had beagles and even a french bulldog that were named Fred. He said that way if he were in trouble and someone was calling his name he could ignore them and say "I thought you were yelling at the dog."
Freddie is basically our ambassador at shows. He usually is the one out in the playpen and people are really drawn to him. Freddie is a good stud for us and will definitely help add some density into our lines. I love his coloring and laid back personality. He's always friendly and rarely gets excited, he's a very laid back boy. Freddie is so cute and friendly that he gets more attention at the shows than any other rabbit. I should charge a modelling fee for him because of all the pictures people take of him at shows.

Freddie's wool is on our wool for sale page.
Pumpkin Pie was purchased mostly for his wool and beautiful coloring. We got him at the same time as Mackenzie's REW FA doe, Marie, who should throw Agouti and REW babies bred to Pumpkin. I wasn't really sure if I wanted to show him or not, but went ahead and entered him to see what comments I got at the first show we went to following the purchase. He was born on Thanksgiving so I didn't think he could possibly win anything at that age.
At the 2/7/09 Stockton, CA show he got the following: Show A: 3rd place and the comments were that he is promising and after the fact everyone noticed his nice color and good rings. Show B: He got Best Opposite of Variety & some really nice comments about his color. Angora Specialty Show: He got BOSV and BOSB.
I'm really hoping that he will fill out nicely and end up with the nice broad French head. Right now the only thing I can say bad about him is his face is a bit narrow. He's a sweetheart to boot.
ISN'T HE CUTE?! You can really see the variations in color for an agouti since these two pictures were taken about an hour apart. The picture of him alone was after a quick touch up with the slicker brush and you can see what that did to change the appearance of his color. The lighting was basically the same, but being an hour apart I'm sure the sun may have moved a bit.
We just picked up Pumpkin Pie's brother Sweet Potato Pie last weekend. Watch for pictures of this cute guy who is just as nicely colored as Pumpkin.
Milky Way was our first English Angora. I looked around for one forever so that I could have an Angora for the wool and spinning. When we went to the show where we purchased Mackenzie's first bunny I saw her and fell in love. I was totally getting her just for the wool but when I was paying for her the seller suggested that I show her since I'd be at the shows with my daughter anyway. I showed her a couple of weeks later and she got two legs! That was the beginning of our angora herd.
Milky Way just gave us her first litter last week on February 25, 2009. They are adorable and she is being an excellent mom. There is one REW, 2 Torts, and 2 Broken Torts. They are Hybrid English/French 50/50 because I really wanted to get the broken pattern in an English. We will probably be selling a couple of these guys, most likely the REW and 1 or 2 of the torts. I'm not sure about parting with the Brokens.
