When Mackenzie saw the rabbits at the Kern County Fair for the first time and figured out that she could show them she begged me to get one. She and I both did a lot of research as to what breeds are good for kids to show. I definitely wanted her to get a smaller breed so it would be easier for her to handle, but wanted to get something with a calm personality.
We went to a show and found the lionhead breed. Technically they cannot be shown because the breed is not an ARBA accepted breed so they are shown for exhibition only. However, there is a National Lionhead organization that has it's own sweepstakes and gives out it's own legs. We have never had a problem entering Lionheads into a show.
In my opinion they are the perfect pet rabbit, especially for children, because of their small size and great personalities. They are great mothers and have the cutest personalities ever.
Our Lionheads are from top lines which include: Cimmaron, Mossy Possum, Pridelands, Bastets, Hillsong, Cottonwood Corner.
Chip was a no-brainer for me. I love the great contrast in his coloring & fell in love with him from the start. I had also seen his son Meeko online (http://www.catwalkrabbitry.com/junior.html) and wanted to get him until I found Chip. He is a chestnut broken and has been a good addition to our rabbitry as a stud. I'm excited about the colors I expect to get out of him. Brokens are really my thing. In each breed I want brokens, pointed and COLOR. Maybe it's my spinning background, but I love color & contrast.
On top of being such a hotty, he's a sweetheart too! When I take him out of the cage each night he snuggles up to my chest and immediately starts giving me kisses. He also has "the look" but sweeter than Pony's. He's the equivalent of the "nice, but cute" brother to Pony's studmuffin ways.
Chippy on a date with Twilight. See how shy he is? BTW: This is way after Halloween we just were using the pumpkins as background.
Such a handsome boy! He even inspired a painting.
Popeye is from the Olive x Hot Shot litter above. He's got a HUGE mane and has really nice bone. He got BOB at his first show out in Tulare. Unfortunately for him we had some time constraints and couldn't make it to a bunch of shows since he's been old enough to go. However, his show career has started and he's doing very well. We are currently working on posing with him & he does really well.
He's really coming into his own now that he's a senior. His mane is in transition for texture, but he still looks great. It's really beautiful when the wind picks up his mane and blows it like a little lion. He has the sweetest personality to boot.
Popeye just won BOSV at the Lionhead Regional Specialty Show - WCC Monterey April 2009! The Chow Mane doe that was BOV also ended up winning BOB so hats off to Popeye, espeically since the SS group was pretty big and included rabbits from Cole's Lionheads, Chow Mane, Lionheads Haven, etc.
BOSV & almost BOS at Fresno show 06-06-09 x 2.
It doesn't look like it but he does have a face in there somewhere!!
This guy has the best head & such a solid body. He likes to give you "the look." When we first got him one of my dad's neighbors asked to take a picture with him because she was so mesmerized with his face. He was our first stud and he's great. Pony doesn't have a big mane, but he has such a cute face, solid body and the sweetest personality ever.
When we were talking about getting him he was described as "a very busy boy." That is exactly what I have found as well. He and I have a routine every night where I go up to his cage after I'm done feeding everyone & open the cage door. He hops over his cardboard tube several times and then comes through the tube (chube) and pops his head out the cage door. This is my signal that it is time to scratch his head. He does this several times until I get tired of watching his game and push him back in the cage. He is a lover but he prefers this game to being held. Once out of the cage however, he will cuddle for hours until you forget he's even there as you can see in the picture.
We recently took him to a show in San Bernardino and everyone was raving about how nice his body and bone are. I only took him to fill the class because he rubs his mane down to almost nothing. I never expected him to win because he's always so rough looking, but he actually got BOV just off of type. His daughter got BOSV hands down (congrats to Pam who now owns her and keeps beating me with her). Everyone told me he's too valuable to show and that he should be home making babies which is exactly what he usually does he just came out of retirement for one show.
April 2009: We have Ponyboy babies with Fluffy (REW doe). She had 4 REWs. It is 2 bucks, 2 does. We also added Cottonwood's Cottonball who is Ponyboy's son to our show team. Thanks to Susan and Elizabeth for such a sweet & fluffy little buck! If you are interested in a Sable Point or REW baby out of Ponyboy please let me know.
The last picture is Pony Boy and his son Winstyn. I put them side by side to show their similarities. Winstyn is just over a year now.
He'll be our main BEW herd buck.
I really lucked out with James! Brianna showed him at the WCC Monterey Lionhead specialty show and he got BOV. What I really love about him is that he looks like a miniature English Angora. His clear blue eyes are gorgeous! The only thing I can fault him for are his big ears, but he holds them so perfectly so it's ok. Thank you to Breanna at Stable Lane for such a great buck. He'll be on our show team.
I'm glad to start our BEW's with a great guy like James & I'm sure he'll get better with time.
Take a look at her other rabbits:

Congrats to Brianna for Jame's brother, Jasper's big win Youth BOV at Lionhead Nationals!!

We have been showing him for the last few months now and he gets BOV every time. As you can see between the pictures Chance took of him right before he left PA he lost a good portion of his mane on his trip across the country. He is starting to get it back now and I can't wait to show him with a full mane. He's doing so well for us I'm really glad we got him. He's also been bred to two of our does: Twilight and Beauty. He was a really good stud from the first try, none of this shy little junior buck stuff for him. The only thing I don't like about desert is that he gets really distracted when I try to take a picture of him and he won't stand still or pose for the pictures. The two below were the best of several pictures, but by no means a good representation of this awesome little buck.

Here is what Chance had to say about him:

NC State Convention 09: Show B_BOV
Desert is another of my Show String that I'm placing up for sale to make room for upcoming juniors. In the last set of juniors I held back for showing, I kept both Desert and another Blue Tort buck so I could show them both before making my final decision between the two.
At the NC State Convention, the judge was going to award Desert BOS until he realized that it would make both the winners (BOB and BOS) be bucks! So poor Desert had to settle for keeping his BOV. ; ) Still it was quite a compliment for this young buck for his first time on the show tables to be considered for BOS.
My mom had this boy for a couple of weeks and started calling him Cottonball, which we pretty much have shortened to Cotton but it never occured to me until I saw the pedigree that he would be "Cottonwood's Cottonball." Either way the name stuck and it really fits. He does look like a little cottonball, which is why I threw him down here with the super fluffy BEWs. He's one of the huge manes that Ponyboy throws and when he went head to head with his brother he got second because his brother actually has a bigger mane than him! I love to see what Ponyboy can produce because he doesn't look like much himself, but he's one special rabbit. I'm so glad that I had Elizabeth and Susan to help me out picking my seed stock because they really steered me in the right direction (in addition to being very special friends to us). Thanks to Cottonwood for this great little buck, Mackenzie loves, loves, loves him even if he did get second to his brother.
Cotton is a very reserved and sweet little boy. He's got a great head and mane and I'm waiting to see if he gets the great bone of his dad. He is still shedding out, but he is getting his break. The only thing I have bad to say about him is his topline is a little flat, but he's got a nice big butt to balance out that fault. I also really love how he has such a nice broad chest and good bibb. Bred to the right doe he would make awesome kits.
His sire is pictured above and you can see pictures of his dam at the following link: http://www.equinepromo.com/HeathersBH/does.htm
The pictures were taken right after I moved his cage away from Brutus, who was spraying on poor little Cotton. He has since had a bath and is back to pure white.
I really need to get some updated pictures of poor little Cotton.
He's much less fluffy now, but has a decent Sr. mane. He has his sire's (Mossy Possum's Ponyboy) good bone & nice mane. I just haven't been taking new pictures of the bunnies lately because most of them are going through summer uglies.
Cottonball will be for sale as soon as we can get a litter from him. If you are interested please email me at addknitter@hotmail.com to reserve him.
Another one from Chance that came to us all the way from Lionhead Nationals in Ohio.
Funny thing is that he turns out to be related to Ponyboy through Mossy Possum's Ashton. Ashton and Ponyboy are awesome bucks so I'm thrilled to have this guy now. I must be a Mossy Possum stalker because a good portion of my Lionheads go back to their lines. He'll replace Winstyn as our Sable Point stud, especially since Winstyn is linebreeding to most of our shaded does. Tatar will add some nice traits into our shaded program. Winstyn has to stay here though because he has a torn ear and apparently doesn't play nice with anyone except me so he becomes another pet rabbit & we will use him as a second SP Stud.
Here is what Chance has to say about Tatar:
Triple DDD's Tater
PB DM Sable Point

Born: June 4, 2006
Mossypossum Ashton x Mossypossum Belinda
I'm probably making a big mistake by offering Tater for sale, but I really am not interested in working too much with Sable Points. Tater is one of the cleanest Senior Sable Point bucks I have ever had the pleasure to see. He has very little smutting to his coat at all.
Check out her website for some really awesome Lionheads: http://myryans.webs.com/
Coming soon! SnowyBoy guy is coming to us from Jessica James of Roadie Roo's Rabbits who just happens to be coming to our town to see family & Blue-Eyed Babe is from her mom and is Snowy's son. I love these little bucks for the same reasons I love James. Both Jessica and Cheryl are very nice and I can't wait to see their rabbits in another week.
Both of them have some nice Lionheads for sale.
